Widespread use of <strong>non-engineered buildings<\/strong> with no seismic standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nepal \u2013 Gorkha Earthquake (2015)<\/strong>\uff1aAround 9,000 deaths. <strong>Unreinforced masonry<\/strong> and <strong>poor enforcement<\/strong> of building codes led to widespread collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pakistan \u2013 Kashmir Earthquake (2005)<\/strong>\uff1a86,000+ lives lost. Rural buildings and public facilities were built without <strong>any seismic resilience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iran \u2013 Bam Earthquake (2003)<\/strong>\uff1aOver 26,000 killed. <strong>Adobe buildings<\/strong> with no reinforcement crumbled easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Peru \u2013 Pisco Earthquake (2007)<\/strong> : 600 dead, thousands injured. <strong>Unreinforced brick buildings<\/strong> collapsed due to poor oversight and outdated practices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" Codes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Japan<\/strong>\uff1aA world leader in earthquake preparedness. <strong>Uses base isolation systems, seismic dampers, and strict building code updates after major earthquakes (e.g., 1995, 2011).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chile<\/strong>\uff1a<strong>Seismic design is mandatory for most structures, <\/strong>with modern codes<strong> updated regularly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>United States (especially California)<\/strong>\uff1aThe<strong> <\/strong>International Building Code (IBC) sets a strong national in national codes. <strong>The Turkish Seismic Code <\/strong>has been updated to international standards. <strong>However, compliance in older buildings is still a concern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;What Can You Do as a Resident or Citizen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you\u2019re not an architect, <strong>you can still take action<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:22px\" aria-hidden=\"true\"
